Motivation and its Life Span

Motivation is the factor that determines your success or failure in life. When you indulge yourself into some work with passion and devotion, then the chances for achieving success go up. On the other hand when you are not willing then even angels cannot guarantee anything.

The interesting part is that in this competitive world majority of people fail to prove a good contender. This fact is hard to swallow, but is universal. For example: Only a very few students who appear in a competitive-exam compete for the top positions. Most of them take exam just to qualify, some with strange expectations from luck, and others simply add to the count of participants.

No one wishes for failure. We all desire, expect, and dream for success and only success. Everyone has a motive for doing anything in life.

The interesting fact is that none of us lacks motivation. The issue is with its life span i.e. I was highly motivated regarding studies after announcement of results. The other part of story is that after a month or two the motivational battery got discharged. At this stage I was left with just a desire and 5%-15% of the original motivation. It happened to me and I know that this happens/happened to many.

The problem is not about being motivated, but is about the life span of our motivation. If by any means we can extend it, the things will turn good for sure. Well! there is no voodoo mantra for success, but going through following points might help.

  • Break your big goal into smaller traceable-objectives. Usually people loose focus when they don’t see results. The smaller modules allow you to focus and aid in systematic accomplishment of the big mission. These small-small successes will keep you motivated. Even if the outcome is not satisfactory at-least you will have something to work upon. The key to remain motivated is to get actively involved in the task.
  • Remind yourself. You can stick a note in most frequently visited region of your home. If you think setting reminders on your mobile phone will do the trick, then go for it. Just don’t let the objective move away from your line of sight.
  • Fix the draining holes. There are people, events, and circumstances that suck your energy that might otherwise be utilized for some productive task. Avoid them by putting some serious efforts. You will only and only loose your focus/motivation when someone or something more entertaining or important comes in-between.
  • Do not listen to the crap by parasitic people. If a friend, a relative, or all of yours so called friends try to distract/depress you, or make an attempt to hinder in your regime; better take corrective measures. At the end you are an all alone singular entity and none will show up to take responsibility for your failures. Even if someone takes responsibility, then what good it will do to the damages already incurred by you.
  • Calm down. Being super charged on one day and out-of-gas in second cannot be considered as a good state of mind. Things require the necessary time. Don’t be hyper nor feel low. A clam motivation is one that stays longer and beers maximum result.
  • Act to achieve your objectives. Only you can help yourself regarding this most important step.
  • Give a treat to yourself. Yes! fix some prize for yourself. Rewards will make you feel good. When you feel good you feel like doing it more and the cycle of success will continue without much complication.

The solution lies in retaining your motivation with consistency. In short “Don’t be hyper and don’t be over enthusiastic; be calm”.

* In one of my observations I have experienced sudden loss of energy after attaining the objective. Hard to swallow, but it happens. Every successful man has to cope with this condition. Either set a higher goal or prepare some plan for another grand success. Life is a journey and there is no resting till end. There can be pauses, but there is no end for a smart man. Hopefully! you got the message. Thanks for your time!
