Spiritual thoughts vs Practical Wisdom

“शास्त्रोअपी लोकज्ञो मुर्ख तुल्यः |” This inspirational thought by Acharya Chanakya means that “One who knows about scriptures (शास्त्र), but is unaware about norms of real world; is a fool”.

In Hindi “शास्त्र जानने वाला यदि लोक-व्यव्हार नहीं जानता, तो वह मुर्ख के समान है|”.

The motivational quote stated at the very beginning of this post talks about the importance of being-practical in life. The following points might help in gaining some clarity. Have a look…

So many People:

In this world you will find all kinds of people. There exists men who are good, who are bad, and even confused. Actually, every individual is different with his/her specific qualities, weaknesses, and other attributes.

Different people treat you in different manners. Even you, treat different people differently. Interestingly, the treatment from same person is most likely to change with change in time and change in circumstances. Obviously! the ways to deal with different people will be different depending multiple factors.

Life is full of action:

The world around us  is alive and active. Everyone including you is performing his tasks & duties in a satisfactory or unsatisfactory manner. Your actions impact others, and actions of others impact you as well. The intensity of those impacts will vary as per the capability of individual, his belief system, and other related aspects.

All those reactive and proactive actions are ongoing and simultaneous. No pauses and no breaks.

Knowing Vs implementing:

We know a lot about motivation and we know a lot about leadership. Actually, we know a lot of things. The issue is not about knowing, but is about implementation.

No matter how many books you read and motivational speeches you hear; none will do any good until and unless you put those ideas to some practical use.

Knowledge is important and nothing else can substitute it. Gain knowledge as much as you can, then use it.

“Life without knowledge will be troublesome and it will remain troublesome until you find some meaningful use of the knowledge acquired.”

Being Too Good?

I have seen that some people with inclination towards spirituality or philosophy start denying the reality of life. I just want to wake them up.

Eg:  The thoughts like  “I am good and I never harmed anyone, so none can harm me” is nothing more than a statement for self-amusement. Better be good and be strong enough to protect your goodness. Goodness alone is very fragile.

You can continue with your Ivory tower (खुशफहमी) or you can build something real. The choice is simple…

  • Just forget about isolating yourself from the world.
  • Be practical in your approach.
  • Don’t utilize spirituality as an excuse for your incompetence. Use it to for good, to become better, and to find solutions.
  • People of different nature must be dealt differently.
  • Gain knowledge as mush as you can and find a use for it.

The quotes like” Different people should be dealt in different manner, and also”“I am good and I never harmed anyone, so none can harm me” is nothing more than a statement for self-amusement. Better be good and be strong enough to protect your goodness. Goodness alone is very fragile.” are said by many people i have heard it by so many means but no one says that how to implement it. Please do not give advice but i really need to know and implement in my life. If it is possible i am ready to hear something from anyone. Thanks.

@Bharagav and anshu, I agree with you guys and have gone through the journey of knowing how to protect goodness and be strong as well.

But to answer to your question/confusion, first we need to know, what is goodness as per you?
