It is very important to identify opportunities in life. One who knows the trick fetches big fortunes and people consider him/her as an intelligent person. On the other hand, it will be a waste of time to talk about someone who tends to ignore opportunities in life.
There are multiple factors that enhances or degrades a person’s ability to detect opportunities. These factors include, but are not restricted to:
- Ones View towards life.
- Clarity regarding objectives in life.
- Level of Procrastination.
- Social influences (External influence).
The people with a serious outlook towards life are more focused. While people with a casual approach towards life lack in clarity regarding their priorities. Without doubt, a serious person with a calm mind is better equipped for success in comparison to a casual dude.
Your outfit can, but you cannot be casual in order to succeed in life.
Procrastination is a major hurdle to overcome. Even the best brains failed to perform under procrastination. It is a very serious issue because it’s problematic at all stages in life. If for some season you succeed in identifying the opportunity, even then procrastination will keep obstructing in planning, implementation, and evaluation process.
“A man can either be lazy or successful. Cannot be both at same time.”
External factors do exist. The nature of people around you is a major determinant. If you happen to be in company of good friends (nice talented people) then most likely they will help you in the process. If not, then just remember that “When a blind leads a blind, then both fall into a ditch.”
A few times our near & dears unknowingly obstruct our path of success and we allow them to do so. Is it Right?

Most of the people can be classified under two broad categories. A first few belong to the set of doers, while others add to the count of complainers. The doers might or might not succeed in achieving their objectives (via grabbing existing opportunities). On the other hand complainers usually fail in almost everything. In most of the cases they deny to compete at all and in rest of the scenarios they fail to present a tough competition.
Every complainer is equipped with a list of excuses for not trying and for not succeeding. What they don’t realize is that by reading such list they are sabotaging their own ability to identify opportunities in life. The worst part is that such negative affirmation impacts unconscious mind in a very drastic manner.
Where you focus and what you see are same things. What you want to see? So, where should you focus?

So far, the overall objective of this discussion was to make you think and to help in identification of the restricting factors.
The big question is “Is it sufficient to identify an opportunity?“. Well! Identification is important, but not enough. Actually, it’s useless without implementation (actions needed to fetch profit).
Compare the Opportunity and the Associated Risk:
Big or small, every opportunity comes with an associated risk. This risk can be small, big, real, unreal, visible, invisible or present in some other form. It is very very important to compare the pros and cons, before doing anything.
* It is certainly a good thing to be a Doer in life. Also, the doers who fail in estimating the risk usually end up in a non-profitable state.
* Never forget to calculate the opportunity cost. If opportunity cost is too high, then don’t engage yourself in such activity. We always pay a price for doing something and for not doing something.
* Listen to every suggestion, then determine how valid actually they are, and also evaluate the person’s real intentions behind those suggestions. Maybe now, you can make smart choices?
Ideas discussed above are based on the following inspirational Quotes by Acharya Chanakya. Have a look…
- How is this situation, who are my real friends, how is my home’s condition, what’s my earnings and expenditure, what are my talents and weaknesses. These are the questions that a wise man asks himself all the time.
- It will be good if you remain at a safe distance from the king, fire, and women. Also, don’t stay too far from them otherwise you will get deprived of the rewards.
…and dear doers I leave you with this inspirational Chanakya Sutra.
“कक्षादत्यौबधं गृह्यते ।” which in Hindi means “सूखे जंगल से भी औषधि लाइ जा सकती है ।“. In English it translates to “Medicines can be obtained, even form a dried forest“.
In other words “Wise men don’t just wait for opportunities to arrive, they turn available resources into an opportunity“.
